The following are general precautions when handling major home appliances during a planned power outage.
Please note that details may vary depending on the manufacturer and product.
Precautions regarding the handling of home appliances during a planned power outage
2011.03.15
Common matters for all home appliances
- Home appliances that use a motor or the like have a large current at startup, and if all home appliances in the home start operating at the same time after the recovery from the power failure, the fuse breaker in the home will fly, and the electricity coming from the disturbance of the waveform It is recommended that you unplug the power plug of the home electric appliance from the outlet in the event of a power outage, as it may adversely affect the parts.
- After power recovery, insert the power plug into the outlet.
- The setting is canceled for home appliances with a timer, so please adjust the time after recovery from power failure.
- Unplug any electrical appliances that generate heat, such as heating appliances or electric kettles, so that power can be restored at any time.
- Precautions vary depending on the manufacturer and model number. Be sure to read the instruction manual for each product.
Handling of major home appliances
- TV set
- DVD / BD / HDD recorder
- video
- refrigerator
- rice cooker
- Microwave oven / microwave oven
- Fully automatic washing machine
- Home laundry
- Air conditioner
- Oil fan heater
- Telephone / Facsimile
- Ventilation fan, range hood
- computer
- Residential solar power system
TV set
- After power recovery, turn on the power and check the operation.
- Some settings have been canceled due to a power failure. Perform the setting operation as required.
- After recovery from power failure, the time information is deleted. Perform time setting operations as necessary.
- For details, refer to the "Time setting" and "Clock setting" items in the instruction manual for your model.
- If you are receiving digital broadcasts or connected to the Internet, some models will automatically set the time if you wait for a while in standby mode.
- If the reservation start time has passed, the settings will be deleted.
Set the reservation again. If a power failure occurs during recording, program recording may fail and cause a recording media failure. If you know the power outage time in advance, we recommend that you do not make a recording reservation for that time zone.

-Recording reservation (models with recording function) ―
DVD / BD / HDD recorder
- In the case of a power failure during recording, the contents of the HDD (hard disk) & DVD recorder are not saved.
- Also, if there is a power failure while performing operations other than recording, the saved contents may not be able to be read.
- It is recommended that important contents be saved frequently to a DVD disc, etc., instead of being recorded on the internal hard disk.
- If a power failure occurs during use, the worst case will be a failure of the HDD (hard disk).
- If the clock display is flashing after the power failure, adjust the time.
- After power recovery, the main unit display blinks because the time information has been deleted. Perform the time setting operation.
- For details, refer to the "Time setting" and "Clock setting" items in the instruction manual for your model.
- If you are receiving digital broadcasts, some models will automatically set the time if you wait a while in standby mode.
- If the reservation start time has passed, the settings will be deleted. Set the reservation again.

video
- If the clock display is flashing after the power failure, adjust the time.
- If the reservation is being made or recording is in progress, after the power failure recovers, reset the settings according to the model.
refrigerator
- No operation is required after the power failure is restored, but if the power failure is long, keep the door open and closed as much as possible to prevent the cool air inside the refrigerator from escaping.
rice cooker
- Reserving during cooking ... After power outage, cook at the reserved time. (Depending on the time of return, cooking may be delayed)
- Cooking rice ... Rice cooks again after the power failure recovers, but if the power failure time is long, it may not be possible to cook well.
- During the heat retention, during the steaming, etc. After the power failure is recovered, the temperature will be kept again, but if the power failure time is long, it may turn off.
Microwave oven / microwave oven
- For products that have a function to set the standby power to 0, the panel display does not turn on even if the power is restored after a power failure. The panel display lights when the door is opened and closed.
- When power is restored, "1000" or "0000" flashes on the display.
- Set the rotating net (rotating plate) and the round plate, and press the "OK" key. When the beep and buzzer sound and "0" is displayed, the zero point adjustment is completed.
Fully automatic washing machine
- If a power failure occurs, the settings will be canceled regardless of whether driving or reservation is in progress.
- If you lose power while driving, close the faucet.
Home laundry
- If there is a power failure while driving, the lid will remain locked.
- To unlock the lid,
When the power is off: Turn the power on.
When the power is “ON”: Turn the power “OFF” and then “ON” again. - In the event of a power outage, the settings will be canceled regardless of whether the device is in use or reserved.
- If you lose power while driving, close the faucet.
Air conditioner
- If a power outage occurs, the timer reservation will be canceled. After recovering from the power failure, make a timer reservation again.
- After a power failure, the operation lamp flashes during both operation and stop.
- After the power is restored, press the operation button twice to stop blinking and the operation lamp will light. (If a power failure occurs during operation, the system will not automatically return to the previous operation.)
- When the machine is stopped, press the operation button once to turn on the operation lamp.
Oil fan heater
- If a power failure occurs during operation, white smoke may be generated.
- If white smoke occurs, unplug the outlet and ventilate the room.
- If you know the power outage time beforehand, stop operation beforehand.
Telephone / Facsimile
- During a power outage, the handset (cordless phone) cannot make or receive calls.
(* Depending on the model, there are some master phones that cannot make or receive calls.) - If a power failure occurs while the Voice Mail is active, the call is disconnected and no recording is made.
- Various services such as number display and call waiting do not work.
- The date and time need to be reset.
- You cannot send or receive faxes during a power outage.
- If a power failure occurs during a call, communication (call, fax transmission / reception) will be cut off.
- When sending a fax, remove the original after it is restored, and then resend it.
- When receiving a fax, ask the other party to send it again.
Ventilation fan, range hood
- Although gas appliances generally function during a power outage, gas appliances require air intake and exhaust, so it is necessary to exercise caution when using gas appliances in insufficient ventilation where ventilation fans and range hoods cannot be used.
computer
- If a power outage occurs during use, any failures can occur. Shut down early to prepare for a power outage.
- If you cannot connect to the Internet after a power failure, turn off all Internet modems and routers (disconnect the outlet).
① Internet modem
② Router
Turn on the power in the order of.
Residential solar power system
- If the photovoltaic module can generate power even during a power outage, the inverter can be switched to "independent operation" mode to use AC100V (up to 1.5 kW) using the emergency outlet dedicated to the system. There is also a system.
* The operation method for switching to independent operation differs depending on the model.
* A dedicated emergency outlet is required to use the autonomous operation mode. At the time of power outage, household outlet cannot be used.
* Electricity can be used during self-sustaining operation only during the day when solar cells are generating power.
* The autonomous operation mode is a function to be used as an emergency power supply in case of power failure. When the power outage is restored, immediately switch to the normal interconnection operation mode.
* In the case of a long-term power outage for some models, it may be necessary to set the self-sustaining operation by service inspection.
* Specifications and operation methods differ depending on the manufacturer model, so be sure to check the instruction manual.
